Books That Have Made A Huge
Difference in my Reading Life:
Childhood Books:
'King Bidgood's in the Bathtub'
by Audrey and Don Wood
'King Bidgood's in the Bathtub' is a beautifully illustrated childrens book that I love when I was little. Don and Audrey Wood are wonderfully book makers! In this story, King Bidgood loves to take baths. The people of the kingdom take turns trying to get him out, but every idea they propose is thwarted by the King, who insists they just do the activity in the tub. Seeing as he was the King, no one could argue. The pictures illustrated the story very well. Then....at the end of the day, when the sun sinks low....the page boy pulls the plug!
This book is not only important to me for it's story, but MY story behind the story. I had the greatest, most wonderful, most exciting babysitter when I was younger. We made chocolate-chip cookies once a week on average, went on an adventure (field trip) about once every two weeks, and were presented with endless things to do. Julie Larson, my babysitter, was also an artist. We could paint whenever we wanted to, and also did an occasional side art project. I loved going to Julie's house! She read us books, which is where King Bidgood and his big water tank come in. We heard King Bidgood's story (as well as other stories by Don and Audrey Wook, like 'Heckedy Peg', 'The Napping House', and 'Jubal's Wish') many times. When I think of King Bidgood, I think of all the fun times I had when I was younger with Julie.
